I was very impressed with this group. Real Life 101 was founded in 2000 with the initial attempt to help inner city residents find jobs. A scholarship fund was then set up to provide financial assistance for inner city students to assist them in attaining higher education.
What was so impressive with this group is that, unlike most scholarship funds that are geared towards students that meet certain GPA or are in specific course of study, Real Life 101 scholarship fund is available to students that want to attend college but are having financial difficulties. Aside for financial assistance, each student also gets a laptop computer and is assigned a personal mentor. The mentor helps these young black men get into college, they teach them to respect women, to get a job and to be the man that God intended them to be. Their mission is to create a better life for these young adults.
To date, Real Life 101 has awarded more than 650 laptop computers to high school graduates and with the 2010/2011 school year over $600,000.00 in scholarship funds. They have more than 125 dedicated professionals who serve as mentors to program participants in the Mentor Program.
Mr. Taylor started with one school in Detroit back in 2000. Their goal is to have one inner city school in a major city in each state. Read more about the fascinating story of this man who so lovingly gave back to his community and about how Real Life 101 Scholarship Fund began.
‘Til next time…
